The Day I Buy a Quebecois Book: Through the Lens of the Exponentiel Clan
On the occasion of Quebec Book Day, the Exponentiel clan was delighted to see that the book industry is doing very well in Quebec. Just last week, an article in La Presse informed us that bookstore sales have reached their highest record in recent years. On this day, we invite you to read the testimonies of some members of the clan about their favourite Quebecois books over the years.
Nancy’s choice – Marie Laberge
I’ve devoured quite a few books by Marie Laberge. What an incredible writer! For a while, I even had a sentence from one of her books stuck to my fridge, which said something like this: “The problem with lucidity is that there is no volume control.” If this excerpt speaks to you and you are not yet familiar with Marie Laberge, I highly recommend diving into her trilogy “Le goût du bonheur”. You will love it!
Antoine’s choice – “Roman Sans Rien” by Antoine Charbonneau-Demers
With a pen that is as powerful and impressive as ever, this new novel by the author is extremely original and leads the reader to reflect on the authenticity and power of writing. Divided into two parts, one autobiographical and one bursting with striking characters, this book confirms that Antoine Charbonneau-Demers is one of the most talented authors of his generation.
Camille’s choice – “Kuessipan” by Naomi Fontaine
Naomi Fontaine's first novel is a puzzle that the reader must piece together, a fragmented portrait of the lives of the people of the North, a paradox between beauty and misery. It's beautiful, from start to finish.
Valérie’s choice – “Rue Duplessis” by Jean-Philippe Pleau
I recommend “Rue Duplessis” by Jean-Philippe Pleau to anyone who wishes to explore the concept of class defector. The author does it with great sensitivity.
